Last weekend we hosted a Punjabi cookery class at The Spice Club . All the way from chopping onions for the masala to making dough for chappatis, we taught our students the fundamental skills to make a delicious, wholesome, classic Punjabi dinner! The menu consisted of:
Tadka Dal
A delicious, classic Indian lentil dish flavoured using a variety of traditional Indian spices
Jeera Pilau Rice
Perfect, fluffy pilau rice every time, complementing any Indian dish
Chappatis
A classic healthy accompaniment enjoyed in millions of Indian homes every day
Raita
A refreshing side dish made from yoghurt and ground roasted cumin
We had a lot of fun taking our group of students on a tour round the spice box and introducing them to the basics of spice blending. I managed to sneak a few snaps in as when I could! See below:
Punjabi Spice Box
Onions, ginger, garlic, chilli-basis of a Punjabi masala
Learning how to make perfectly round chappatis every time!
We made this spicy, cabbage & potato dish for studentsto try their fresh chappatis with.
We had a great time and received some lovely feedback from those who attended the class, including:
“Monica and Anita, thank you very much for such a marvellous afternoon-we enjoyed it thoroughly would love to attend another”-Liezl and Ian
