Last Saturday saw our Indian Vegetarian Feast at The Spice Club. This was our fourth vegetarian feast of it’s kind and we have featured a different menu at every one. I think that is the beauty of Indian vegetarian food-the variety. Being a vegetarian in India is easy because there’s a vast diverse range of dishes available, made from unique ingredients from all regions of  the country. Rather than typing out how the evening went, I’ve posted some photos from the evening (a picture paints a thousand words and what not….). Enjoy! Comments are appreciated 🙂

 


To make our starter of Punjabi Samosas, we made a home-made pastry seasoned with carom seeds and stuffed them with spiced potatoes and peas. Served with tamarind and date chutney, these went down really well..


We made a plethora of classic North Indian vegetarian dishes for the mains. I grew up on Ma Cholo Ki Dal (pictured above).  It’s made from a mix of black urad lentils and channa dal and then tempered in a Punjabi masala made from onions and garlic. Really creamy in texture and so satisfying.


Roasted Aloo Gobi-Cauliflower florets and potatoes cooked in cumin, asafoetida, ginger and turmeric-We had a guest ask for seconds and thirds for this dish!


One of the best things about hosting a supperclub is being able to meet such an interesting mix of people that you wouldn’t ordinarily have the opportunity of meeting on a daily basis. On Saturday we had an amazingly diverse crowd-all the way from a  lovely couple who run a micro brewery (yes talks of a Spice Club branded beer are in the talks) to a couple who own the world’s only lawn mower museum!

For dessert we served kheer-an Indian rice pudding flavoured with crushed cardamom
